CONZUL

The Council of New Zealand University Librarians (CONZUL) is a Committee of the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee and is an association of all New Zealand University Librarians.  (Click here for the Terms of Reference.pdf (17.5KB))

Membership of CONZUL consists of the University Librarian of each member University of the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee.

CONZUL's mission is to act collectively to improve access for students and staff of New Zealand universities to the information resources required to advance teaching, learning and research.

CONZUL's key functions reflect the members’ desire to provide leadership in a knowledge society by strengthening the strategic capacity of university libraries. In particular, CONZUL provides an infrastructure that supports the creation, application and dissemination of information through:

  • teaching - passing on knowledge;
  • learning - applying knowledge;
  • research - creating knowledge.

The Chair of CONZUL for 2009 - 2010 is John Redmayne, University Librarian, Massey University.  The Deputy Chair is Sue Roberts, Univeristy Librarian, Victoria University of Wellington.

CONZUL supports programmes that facilitate the sharing of knowledge, resources and enabling NZ university libraries to purchase resources collaboratively, including:

  • Institutional Repositories: CONZUL have sponsored forums in 2006, 2007 and 2008 covering the development, implementation and embedding of institutional repositories in tertiary education organisations;
  • ULANZ University Libraries Aotearoa - a national borrowing scheme for students and staff;
  • CONZULAC - Council of NZ University Librarians Acquisitions Consortium;
  • CONZUL PDV - a programme for professional visits between CONZUL member libraries.
  • Heritage - CONZUL sponsored a forum in 2008 investigating heritage issues.

Since 1999 CONZUL have collected New Zealand University Library Statistics online.
