Shirtcliffe Fellowship

These Fellowships arise from a gift of $40,000 made to the University of New Zealand in 1935 by Sir George Shirtcliffe, of Wellington and are to assist students of outstanding ability and character who are graduates of a university in New Zealand, in the continuation of their doctoral studies in New Zealand or the Commonwealth.

 

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  1. candidates for a doctoral scholarship awarded by a New Zealand university; and
  2. whose degree is awarded in any faculty or school which, if that degree had been available in 1935, would in the opinion of Universities New Zealand - Te Pōkai Tara be expected to have been awarded following a course of study in one or other of the Faculties of Arts, Science, Law, Commerce or Agriculture. 

 

Value and number awarded: 

$5,000 per annum for up to three years.  

One scholarship is awarded each year.
