Shirtcliffe Fellowship

These Fellowships arise from a gift of $40,000 made to the University of New Zealand in 1935 by Sir George Shirtcliffe, of Wellington and are to assist students of outstanding ability and character who are graduates of a university in New Zealand, in the continuation of their doctoral studies in New Zealand or the Commonwealth.

  

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  1. candidates for a doctoral scholarship awarded by a New Zealand university; and
  2. whose degree is awarded in any faculty or school which, if that degree had been available in 1935, would in the opinion of the NZVCC be expected to have been awarded following a course of study in one or other of the Faculties of Arts, Science, Law, Commerce or Agriculture. 

 

Value and number awarded: 

$5,000 per annum for up to three years. 

One scholarship is awarded each year.
